Small Bathroom Remodel Ideas
When it comes to bathroom lighting ideas, there are plenty of options to choose from, which can be overwhelming at times. But with small bathrooms, not all bathroom lighting fixtures work and you must strike a visual balance to enhance your space. Here are some small bathroom lighting ideas to keep in mind during your next remodel.
1. Blend Different Sources of Light
Every interior designer knows that the key to improving the aesthetic of your room is having multiple light sources. This is particularly crucial with a small bathroom. Singular, bright ceiling light for a small bathroom can make the bathroom appear smaller. Instead, blend task lights near the vanity area with ambient small bathroom ceiling lights to strike a perfect visual balance.
2. Focus on the Mirror
Small bathrooms can appear a lot bigger with the help of mirrors. In fact, it’s a well-known hack to position lights close to a mirror to enhance the brightness in the room. Task lighting is also crucial near a mirror as that is the area most commonly used for precise activities like shaving and applying makeup. Hence, heavy shadows should not fall around the vanity area as it will reduce visibility and make the room appear smaller. For your small bathroom, ceiling lights may reflect unflattering light through the room. Instead, opt for wall lamps at the eye level of your mirror. One of the most clever bathroom lighting ideas is installing a mirror with its own light source.
3. Spotlighting in the Shower Enclosure
While remodelling a small bathroom, A great way to draw focus to only one area of your bathroom when you are using it is to install focus lights in different areas of the bathroom. If you have a walk-in shower enclosure, install spotlights on the ceiling as they can make your entire bathroom appear bigger.
4. Match Your Lights with Bathroom Fixtures
One of the best small bathroom remodel ideas for more visual balance without having any particular fixture stand out, is to match your bathroom fittings to your lights. For example, if your bathroom has copper fittings and metalware, stick to the same colour while choosing your lighting fixtures.
5. Work With Natural Light
This may not work if your bathroom is already fully constructed, but one of the best bathroom lighting ideas is to channel natural light into the bathroom to make it look more spacious. If unlit well, small bathrooms have a tendency to look dingy and can even make you feel claustrophobic. By adding natural light via a skylight or a large frosted glass window, you can keep your bathroom more open and make it appear bigger.
